Memories can be reviewed at Charlotte Pine's black book of ghost mementos. As a bear's story quests are completed and mementos are given to them, they will recover more memories about their lives and unlock more of Cozy Grove's history.
The black book of ghost mementos includes information on every resident bear the player has met (besides merchant bears: Mr. Kit, Pandam, Darla O'Hare, and Ms. Carouse), including when the player first met them and their location. The player can review all memories, mementos, and comics here.
Base game bears[]
Charlotte Pine[]
A kindly Ranger Bear, and self-appointed caretaker of Cozy Grove.
- Charlotte Pine, the Ranger Bear, isn't thrilled to learn you're a Spirit Scout. Apparently, another Scout visited the island once before, and it didn't go well...
- Charlotte's discovered this Memento Collection from an Old Spirit Scout Wilderness Guide! The more you learn about the bears on this island, the more it will fill up.
- It turns out the reason Charlotte has mixed feelings about Spirit Scouts is because she was a Scout herself! And apparently, she thinks she failed at it.
- Ted Sapsen was the spirit that Charlotte struggled with the most. Unlike other ghosts, Ted was endlessly needy and seemed impossible to help.
- Charlotte witnessed Captain Snout crash his ferry, leaving her and the others on the island permanently stranded -- and new neighbors to a bunch of restless spirits.
- Charlotte has been needlessly blaming herself for her mother's death and Cozy Grove's decline.
- Thanks to you, Charlotte has finally been able to accept that sometimes bad things happen, even when you do everything you can to prevent them. She is freer than she has ever been.
Jeremy Gruffle[]
An apologetic Maker Bear, the island's foremost craftsman.
- Jeremy Gruffle, the Maker Bear, is pretty handy with crafting. He seems unusually apologetic for some reason, though...
- Jeremy is eager to help you in any way he can. But who in the world gives a child a machete?!
- Jeremy wants to collect his past projects -- adorned with his signature metal hearts -- and destroy them in an act of penance.
- He discovers a cuckoo clock that isn't his own -- it's the work of his friend Harold, a fellow craftsman.
- A tiny paw-print on one of Jeremy's metal hearts provokes a sudden memory: he used to have a son, a family.
- Jeremy recalls his family and their old house. His son so loved his creations that Jeremy built him a special cuckoo clock.
- In a fit of anxiety, Jeremy smashed the cute cuckoo clock he'd made for his son, breaking his son's little heart.
- Jeremy realizes that his bond with his neighbor Harold went much deeper than friendship. Finally able to accept that his son and others loved him, Jeremy decides to keep the clock the two made together.
Captain Billweather Snout[]
An ornery Seagull Bear, still haunted by his past mistakes.
- Captain Billweather Snout, the Seagull Bear, used to pilot the Cozy Grove ferry. His story is quite fascinating... or so he claims.
- It seems Captain Snout was a heavy drinker when he was alive. You might be feeding his dependency even more, but surely there's no harm in getting a ghost drunk?
- Captain Snout was dashingly handsome in his youth. He's even got the photographic evidence to prove it.
- Seagull Bear was not always a Seagull, but he's relating to his fellow bears less and less. So he's adopted a new feathery companion: Pollymore.
- As a young bear, he won a drinking contest against Mr. Kit. He gained more than he bargained for: a ship that carried the living (and the dead) back and forth from Cozy Grove.
- Bill thought a captain's life would mean freedom. Instead the job made him lonely. His drinking increased.
- One foggy evening, after a few too many, Captain Snout crashed the ferry on the shore. There were no living passengers that night, but many visiting ghosts were stranded on the island.
- Captain Snout couldn't face his friend, the Ranger, after the disastrous crash of his ferry. Guilt-ridden, he looks for ways to make amends.
- Captain Snout's ferry never left Cozy Grove again. In the afterlife, however, he did redeem himself by helping one brave Spirit Scout to restore their boat and return home.
Patrice Furbac[]
A dutiful Postal Bear. Not even death can keep him from his rounds.
- Patrice Furbac, the Postal Bear, sure is enthusiastic about being a postal worker! What's with the demonic-sounding package, though?
- Patrice has taught you all about the care and feeding of imps. Apparently they're not so bad -- or at least, they repay kindness.
- Patrice discovers a photo of his wife and children, whom he'd almost forgotten about.
- Something about that package seemed to crack Patrice's professional composure. What's so disturbing about a soccer ball?
- In telling the story that ended his military career, Patrice is suddenly overcome with self-loathing. There's more to the story here.
- Patrice recalls his squadmates, who were killed in action while he was laid up with a minor injury. The survivor’s guilt haunts him to this day.
- After his discharge, Patrice joined the Cozy Grove postal service. But he died a sudden and premature death - which he feels he deserved.
- The demonic packages that tormented Patrice seems to have ceased. Instead, Patrice receives a message from his departed squadmates: This is not your fault.
- Thanks to you, Patrice is finally able to let go of some of the guilt he has held onto so long. His dark memories now behind him, Patrice can fully embrace the work he so enjoys.
Francesca DuClaw[]
An artist and true lover of nature.
- Francesca DuClaw, the Wood Bear, is delighted to have a new (living) neighbor! But she could use your help to fit in with her tree friends...
- You went looking for Francesca's friend, Kafka, a 'very special tree' who turned out to be a book. Francesca's grasp on reality seems tenuous at best.
- Francesca tells of an ancient empire which once ruled this island. Fact or fiction? Who know, but your dowsing rod is sure to find clues...
- When Francesca recalls her past life as a wood sculptor, her relationship with the trees of Cozy Grove briefly becomes awkward.
- Another piece of Francesca's past is revealed: her father was a famous sculptor as well.
- You found an old photo of Francesca, but it's badly damaged and bent. The edges look...singed?
- Francesca recalls the forest fire that claimed her father's cabin and destroyed their creations. She managed to save one piece: a bust carved by her father.
- Francesca reveals that the bust she saved from the fire was of her own mother. She has come to accept that nothing lasts forever; that life is a series of moments and connections.
Allison Fisher[]
A lovable baker, fond of questionable ingredients.
- Allison Fisher, the Baker Bear, is so thrilled to have someone new to bake for!
- Allison's recipes fly in the face of tradition and taste. Fish ice cream? Her captive audience of customers don't seem to object.
- She has begun feeding the local imp population, which seems harmless enough. But her sister, the Mayor, might think differently.
- Allison's first kitchen was small, cramped, and in an old shoe-shop. Nevertheless, she loved it very much and worked hard on her unusual recipes.
- Not content with feeding imps, Allison's started a mission to attract the local fauna to her bakery.
- Food critic Kuma Watanabe's negative review has left Allison devastated. But it's just one bear's opinion, right?
- The negative feedback keeps coming. Allison has lost all confidence in herself and her creations.
- The animals of Cozy Grove genuinely enjoy eating Allison's creations. She may have finally found her true calling.
- With your help, Allison has fully regained her confidence. She no longer fears a bad review; she wants to learn from her customers and work on becoming a better baker.
Valentina Oso-Fisher[]
Both Mayor and sole real estate agent of Cozy Grove.
- Valentina Oso-Fisher, the Mayor Bear, clearly believes in running a tight ship, even if all her residents are dead.
- Valentina takes great pride in Cozy Grove and its residents. She works hard to keep up appearances.
- Somehow, Valentina has roped you into being her new assistant. Think of it as a phantasmagorical unpaid internship.
- Things seem strained between Valentina and her half-sister, Allison Fisher, over the baker's unconventional style.
- Feeling dissatisfied after her shopping spree, Valentina seeks something that'll bring her true happiness. A photo of her old motorcycle stirs something in her.
- It seems that imps are drawn to negative energy, which explains why Valentina is a frequent target of their pranks. Can she still turn things around?
- Valentina is finally at peace with how she died and the fate of the town. Today is the first day of the rest of her afterlife!
Lee Berry Dennings[]
A friendly bear, obsessed with his ever-growing collection.
- Lee Berry Dennings, the Veggie Bear, is interested in recovering some old family heirlooms. That sounds straight-forward enough...
- Lee's animal problem is your animal opportunity. But maybe he'd attract fewer critters if he cleaned up around the place?
- It's hard to believe such an obsessive collector could come from such austere parents. At least he's pretty cool about giving deadly weapons to children.
- Lee remains haunted by the 'bad old days,' when crop failure and famine struck his family's farm. The lean times eventually ended, but the scars remained.
- This fixation with Lee's mom's ceramic carrots is getting a little weird.
- Lee keeps dreaming about a blob that consumes everything in its path. You don't yet have a merit badge in Dream Analysis, though, so it could mean anything.
- An old photo of the family farm takes Lee by surprise, as he realizes how neat and orderly his parents once kept things.
- Alas, poor Lee. The memories are flooding back now as he remembers his own demise, crushed under his own collection.
- Lee Berry Dennings has made a clean start, giving away almost all of his possessions. He might have some growing to do yet to truly get over his hoarding, but he wouldn't have reached this point without you.
Arjun Bhalla[]
An absent-minded retiree in search of his memories.
- Arjun Bhalla, the Retiree Bear, keeps a photo of his wife with him at all times. Or, most of the time.
- Apparently Arjun used to be a sailor? But the person in the photo looks more like Captain Snout…
- It seems that Arjun became a postal worker after he retired from sailing the seven seas. That's an interesting career change.
- Now Arjun recalls drowning at a young age. Something is clearly amiss here.
- There's no doubt about it now: Arjun's getting his own memories mixed up with that of the other bears. He won't find peace at this rate.
- This time Arjun mistook someone else's wedding photo as his own. Does he even remember what his wife looked like?
- Arjun sees a photo of his own wife and children and is finally able to separate others' memories from his own. He remembers what he treasures most.
- Arjun had blocked painful memories from his wife's passing, but now the memories of her terminal illness return - along with his guilt.
Octavia Cubbins[]
A sarcastic Surfer Bear, slow to trust newcomers.
- Octavia Cubbins, the Surfer Bear, seems to have A Thing about receiving help. Will she warm up to you with time?
- Octavia demonstrates how to skip rocks, and recalls how she used to share this activity with someone dear to her.
- Octavia is having problems with her fellow beach bear, Captain Snout. Apparently the two don’t get along well.
- A recent dive dredged up old memories of Octavia's friend, who drowned when she was younger.
- Octavia recalls her beautiful beach wedding. Her partner wore a necklace made from the shells that Octavia had collected.
- Octavia recounts the accident that paralyzed her legs. She worked very hard to rebuild her life and excel in other ways, including volleyball.
- Seeing the shell necklace she gave to her partner at their wedding, Octavia remembers a time when she wasn't so distrustful of others. With your help, she's begun to open up again and start her life anew.
Clyde Wallace[]
An ambitious Wolf Bear, always looking for his next venture.
- Clyde Wallace, the Wolf Bear, is confident and charismatic. And he isn't letting death come between him and his next big venture.
- You're not sure why a tiny island full of ghosts needs its own 'cryptidcurrency,' but then, you're not a successful businessman, now are you?
- Clyde is obsessed with being the richest, most successful person around. He even commissioned a trophy to give himself for outselling Mr. Kit's store.
- It seems Clyde legally owns the whole town now. Not you, though. You're a free agent.
- Having realized that he was simply reenacting the memory of money, Clyde wonders if he left behind any real legacy at all.
- Despite Clyde's selfish business practices, he also had a decent side. He donated money to a charity for poor children to attend school.
- You've helped Clyde find value in his life beyond money, and become his first real friend. That's more than worth its weight in Wolf Coin.
Bruin Tram[]
A Wary Bear, who sees things other's don't.
- You've met some interesting bears in your time here, but Bruin Tram, the Wary Bear, might be the strangest one yet.
- It seems Tram gets all his news from his television set. Though, to be fair, you get all your news from your phone.
- You've tried replacing Tram's grim TV with some more truth-oriented programming. That should help him see reason... right?
- Tram still hasn't found a cure for his headaches, but that quack medicine of his might have something to do with his untimely demise.
- You've finally cut through Tram's paranoid delusions. He let fear control not just his life, but his afterlife as well. Now, at last, he is free.
Ursula Pine[]
A nurturing Sunflower Bear, able to grow almost anything.
- Ursula Pine, the Sunflower Bear, is as cheery as her name suggests.
- Ursula’s garden is special. When she plants something of a fellow spirit’s there, it is transformed into something to soothe them.
- It takes a strong bear to raise seven cubs on her own, yet Ursula seems dismissive about her own life story.
- Ursula's ex-husband Harold abandoned her and their seven children.
- When Francesca, Ursula's eldest daughter, went to live with Harold in the woods, it forced Ursula to reevaluate her life.
- Ursula refused to let Harold's absence define her and her family. She focused on raising her children and finding joy in life together.
- Ursula loves all her children dearly, but she has a special bond with her youngest, Charlotte, who stayed with her right to the end. Now, the mother bear's one wish is to see her child flourish.
Ted Sapsen[]
A stoic rock collector, who always gets straight to the point.
- Ted Sapsen, the Rock Bear, is... well, you're not sure yet.
- He may be short on words, but Ted's clearly knowledgeable about rocks. Maybe if you bring him more, he'll start to open up?
- Ted has never understood why people could not simply accept him for who he is. Not everyone who is different needs to be 'fixed.'
Pius of Grizz[]
The fanatical High Priest Bear, a servant to the Emperor.
- Pius of Grizz, the High Priest Bear, has awakened after centuries of slumber. Could he unveil the final secrets of the island's history?
- Pius was an orphaned cub taken in by the Emperor's church, where he was taught the tenets of his faith - as well as reading and writing.
- His favorite duty as priest was holding sermons with the common folk. But the revolution destroyed the church, and his altar.
- As a deacon, Pius discovered the politics of the priesthood, and had to decide between his career and helping the people under his care.
- Pius has somehow roped you into helping him bribe the Mayor. What have you gotten yourself into?
- When the revolution came, Pius retreated to the high tower of his church. But the mob found him soon enough...
- Pius has been having a crisis of faith ever since recalling his death. With your kindness, perhaps he will find a way forward.
- With your help, Pius has finally started to recall the good aspects of his faith. He remembers the true purpose of a priest: to help his fellow creatures.
Bearos the Third[]
The troubled Emperor Bear, monarch of a forgotten empire.
- Bearos III, the Emperor Bear, truly believes he is a divine being. Naturally, that means he expects tribute as well.
- It's finally dawned on Bearos that he, himself, is a ghost. He isn't taking the news very well.
- As a cub, Bearos struggled with the expectations of a future Emperor. He was denied any sense of individuality, or even simple hobbies.
- Bearos recalls the revolution which claimed his empire. Just before his execution, he met Dalia of Cosgrove, and felt a strange connection with her…
- Bearos has long wondered if he and Dalia could have been friends in another lifetime. Now, he finally has a chance to find out.
- With your help, Bearos has forged a new friendship with Dalia. With a new understanding of himself, he looks forward to making a better world with her -- and you.
Dalia of Cosgrove[]
The long-forgotten Revolutionary Bear, a leader of her people.
- Dalia of Cosgrove, the Revolutionary Bear, remains shrouded in mystery. What mistakes does she refer to, and why has history forgotten her?
- Though her revolution failed, Dalia is compelled by injustice to start a new movement on the island… using imps.
- Dalia's peaceful efforts to petition the Emperor went nowhere, leading her to believe the only solution was to take down the empire by force.
- After overtaking the empire, Dalia and her movement tried to run it themselves and failed. They ultimately turned on each other.
- Disillusioned, Dalia has again lost hope in changing the world for the better. If only there was a way for her to start anew.
- Toward the end of her life, Dalia saw new settlements emerge from the ruins of the empire. With your help, she looks forward to a new, more enlightened society built through friendship and mutual aid.
New Neighbears[]
These four bears are introduced in New Neighbears DLC.
Archie Pawston[]
When you look up 'party animal', you'll see a picture of Archie.
- Archie reveals his 'party wall', where he puts photos of all his friends. You get the distinct sense that his party wall, like his partying in general, is an aggressive coping strategy for... something.
- You helped Archie get his paws on a new speaker system. Apparently, he's hoping to make so much noise he can't hear himself think.
- So Archie has a 'wall of bummers' too, and he put Charlotte on it. But it's not actually intended as an insult, it's more of an aspirational thing for Archie. He wants to get her partying, too.
- Archie makes a fishy friend.
- It seems that Archie and his brother shared a fish pet, when they were alive. It also seems that Archie and Brandon loved each other very much.
- Archie's brother Brandon struggled with some unknown problem towards the end of his life. It clearly affected Archie.
- Archie still isn't ready to share his story with me.
- I finally understand Archie. He became a 'party person' to distract himself and everyone around him from the pain of losing Brandon.
Beatrice Mellifera[]
An avid collector with the BUZZ.
- Beatrice is a bubbly bear who seems utterly fixated on her 'collection.' I think I know where THIS is headed...
- Beatrice had a twin sister. She did not appreciate being superficially compared with her.
- Beatrice was married to Orsino, a multi-millionaire.
- Beatrice believes that an underground civilization of collectors called the 'Apocrites' has been sending 'Arcane Honeyforms' to our world. Very odd.
- Beatrice hated being left alone by Orsino in their big mansion, and she came to resent the flowers that Orsino always gave her upon return from his trips.
- Neither Beatrice's sister nor her husband understood her passion for collection, and she for her part seems to have felt left behind by both of them.
- A magical bird appears to have hatched out of a honeyform. Astonishing!
- Beatrice neglected everything in life, including her home, to build her collection. It didn't seem to bring her true happiness, and it isn't bringing happiness to the honeybird either.
- Beatrice has freed the Honeybird from its cage. She might almost be ready to open the doors of her own cage, too.
Ben Hiberneczek[]
A bear who just wants to go gold.
- Ben had a large family in life, and is drowning in cute kittens now. He seems to feel that this is holding him back.
- Ben had two best friends, Katya and Mitchell.
- Ben's wife, Mitzi, didn't care about status symbols. She wanted a symbol of long-term dedication.
- Ben is obsessed with building an afterlife home that is 'good enough' for his wife. He also believes she has ascended. He does not seem to recognize the contradiction there.
- The root of Ben's issues reveals itself. He passed on a chance to start a business with his best friends, and his regret is palpable.
- Katya's mansion made Ben feel envious and ashamed.
- Ben is shocked to learn that one of his children has held a grudge against him for many years. How can that be, when Ben worked obsessively to provide for his family?
- Oh, Ben. You're so close. You finally understand the beautiful gift that your family was and is. It's never 'too late' to appreciate it.
Lillian McQuill[]
Shy when you first meet her, still shy after you get to know her.
- Lillian seems to be tormented by her inner voice? The poor bear.
- I finally seem to have convinced Lillian that I care about her! Progress!
- Lillian was fascinated with chemistry in life. I'll bet she was pretty smart!
- One of Lillian's fondest memories is getting her first job by displaying her excellent knowledge of chemistry as well as her origami skills.
- Lillian had a truly awful supervisor who belittled her ideas and made a joke of her attempts to contribute. His behavior scarred her for life.
- The spirit of Clyde strikes again! It's nice to see him scheming on the side of good, I guess.
- Lillian finally understands that the bears who tormented her were insecure and took their insecurities out on her.
