Light is a game mechanic in Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit. Areas that are lit up appear colorful; unlit areas appear dull and washed out.

Certain resources need to be lit to be interacted with or harvested. Once an area is lit, color will spread and old coins will pop up from the ground. Unlit areas can still be explored, and some resources do not require light.

Creating Light[]

Upon first landing, Camp Spirit (Island) will be unlit and dim. The player will need to interact with the campfire to summon Flamey, creating the first light source on the island.

Additional light sources are created by completing the bears' various quests. When a bear is satisfied, they will change from a spirit into a more corporeal form and light up the area around them. When a new quest is available, the bear will change back into its spirit form, dimming the surrounding area again until the new quest is completed.

Lamps can also be placed to create smaller patches of light. A lamp must be placed within an existing light source's area of effect; it will not work its own. Placing a lamp by dragging it from the inventory will show both the existing source's and the new lamp's areas of effect, which appear as circles. A white circle indicates that a lamp will work; a red circle indicates it will not. Rarer types of lamps will cast light over a greater area compared to common lamps. Lamps can be chained around the island to light areas unreachable by Flamey, a bear, or a campfire.

Ancient Lamps[]

A relic of the forgotten Empire. Its mystical light keeps nature at bay and creates space for civilized construction!

In-game flavor text

Ancient lamps are naturally-occurring campfires can be found at each new campsite or safe area unlocked as the player expands their island by feeding Spirit Wood to Flamey. The lamps must be lit by chaining other lamps to them, as other sources will not reach far enough. When lit, they will reach just far enough to light up a large part of a campsite and will give the player some valuable resources.

Effect on Resources[]

Fruit and nut trees, bushes, flowers, and pets all require light to be harvested. Being outside a lit area does not interrupt the harvest cycle, but these resources must be lit to harvest. For example, an unlit flower will still grow after the usual 72 hours, but the player will need to either light it or move the plant to a lit area for harvest.

Many plants and animals like to be in light, and multiple light sources nearby can make them happier, yielding a larger harvest.

Rocks, shrubberies, leaf piles, dirt mounds, spirit wells, shells, imps, quest items, and dropped items do not need to be in a lit area to harvest or interact with them. Static items however will visually appear as monochrome, and therefore may potentially be more difficult to find or identify at a glance.
