Imp

Imps are facetious, skittish spirits that appear on the island. They can be found in groups or alone and disappear when the player comes near them unless they are particularly happy, as shown as a bubble with a heart above their heads.

Imps often steal objects from bears and several quests consist in finding these items and bringing them back to their owner.

Approaching imps

Most imps on the island cannot be interacted with and will disappear once the player approaches them. However, some imps can be interacted with to receive items as a reward.

Hungry imps

An imp is hungry when they have a bubble with an edible item above their head, usually a root vegetable or a mushroom. These hungry imps will still disappear when the player gets too close.

However, the player can throw them the item they desire (by placing it in their active backpack slot and aiming it). If the item lands close enough, the imp will notice, approach, and eat it, and the item in the bubble over their head will be replaced with a heart. The player then can approach the imp and interact with them to receive a reward: one spirit, happy, or joyous imp essence, or some old coins. After the player collects the reward, the hungry imp disappears.

Several hungry imps spawn on the island each day.

Heartbroken imps

Each day, two heartbroken crying imps have a chance to spawn on the player's island.

The player can reunite the two imps by leading them to each other using bon bons (bon bons can be ordered from Allison Fisher's It Will Turn Out Fine Bakery). The player can lead one imp towards the other by throwing bon bons at them repeatedly or making a bon bon trail.

Once the imps are close enough and one of them notices the other, they reunite and stop crying, and a heart bubble appears over their head. The player can approach them to get a reward: some basic pastries and essence. After the player collects the reward, the imps disappear.

Mischievous imps

Sometimes, when the player has a hidden object quest active, they need to get some of the objects by chasing imps. These imps are standing in place with a question mark above their head.

Once the player approaches, the imp do not disappear and start running away from the player instead. Once the player catches them, they can be interacted with to drop the quest item.

Seasonal items

During the summer festival (July 2 to 15), hungry and heartbroken imps will drop sparks in additional to their regular rewards when fed or reunited.

During the fall festival (October 20 to 31) hungry and heartbroken imps will drop spooky rotten eggs and candy once per day when helped.

During the winter festival (December 20 to January 23) the player can engage in snowball fights with some of the imps on the island to get some snow crystals.
