Fishing is an activity in Cozy Grove that allows the player to capture fish from the ocean using the fishing rod. Fish can be processed and sold to earn money.
Getting started[]
To start fishing, the player needs to obtain two things: an ocean fishing rod and a fishing lesson from Captain Billweather Snout. The fishing rod can be purchased from Mr. Kit for 20 , and the Captain will ask the player to buy one after he introduces himself and shares his first memory.
How to fish[]
The exact fishing mechanic varies from platform to platform, but in all platforms the player needs to:
- Equip the fishing rod from the inventory
- Find a spot where a fish shadow is visible
- Aim the bobber to land close enough for the fish to notice, without scaring it away (fish vary in how easy they are to attract and/or frighten away):
- Normal fish run if hit with the bobber.
- Skinny fish scare if the bobber is too close to them.
- Wait until the fish "bites" (the bobber get pulled briefly under water) before reeling it in
Uses of fish[]
The fish caught by the player has a variety of uses:
- Captain Billweather Snout will accept donations of new fish for his collection. Each fish can be donated only once.
- Mr. Kit will give the player old coins in exchange for fish, but it is often more lucrative to process the fish instead of selling them.
- Flamey will burn fish and turn them into charred fishbones. These charred fishbones can be sold to Mr. Kit, used in crafting recipes, or used to repair broken tools.
Types of fish[]
Fish are categorized by rarity, size, season, and energy level.
Fish come in five rarity types (common, uncommon, rare, legendary, and mythical) and three sizes (tiny, middling, and huge). These two categories dictate the typical sell prices, burn ratios (quantity of charred fishbones received for burning), and rewards available for donating a fish to Captain Billweather Snout's collection.
Fish are seasonal, so the player will catch different fish at different times of year. Fish energy levels also vary: some fish are tagged as "lazy," and others as "energetic." Fish energy level determines how its shadow looks while in the water.
Not all fish sizes and rarities are available to catch from the start: the player can only catch tiny common and uncommon fish on their first day. Middling fish appear starting from day 3, and huge fish appear starting on day 16.
Additionally, the player can catch essence, shells, branches, or crafting recipes (once per day) when fishing.
Fish seasons[]
There are 180 unique varieties of fish in the game spread across six seasons (30 varieties per season). Fish seasons overlap, and each season lasts four months. The seasons for fish are:
- Winter: January to April
- Early spring: March to June
- Late spring: May to August
- Summer: July to October
- Early fall: September to December
- Late fall: November to February
The fish for each season come in three sizes (tiny, middling, and huge), two behaviors (lazy and energetic), and five rarities (common, uncommon, rare, legendary, mythical).
