Cozy Grove is the name of the island. The player, a scout spirit, has been sent to this island by Scoutmaster Blake. As they step off their row boat, they open the letter that had been given before their voyage:
Dear Spirit Scout,
Welcome to the island of Cozy Grove! Utilities and other public services are not available on the island, so please check your provisions. Rangers from the mainland rarely visit the island. You will need to be self-sufficient. Note that previous campers have reported run-ins with bears in the area, so use caution. Have fun, and keep your fire burning!

Campground[]

The player finds a campground near the beach they docked on, with a ground tarp, a bedroll and a fire pit. In the fire pit Flamey, an anthropomorphic fire, emits light and color around it. Flamey can also sense wounded, restless spirit Bears in the nearby areas of Cozy Grove. Flamey also lets the player access their tent, which serves as a storage area.
While the magical island of Cozy Grove changes and transforms over time, the player's campground is stabilized by the light of Flamey. This area is safe to place Pets]], flower pots, fruit trees and Decorations.
Safe spaces[]
While the campground is the first "safe space" the player finds, others become available as the game progresses. Throughout the game, as the player gives Spirit Wood to Flamey several large, clear areas become available. Like the initial campsite, these areas can be used to place pets, flower pots, fruit trees and decorations without fear of disruption due to future changes to the island's topography.
The fully upgraded island has six safe areas available for the player, including the initial campsite.
Safe area | Scout Rank | Size | Location |
---|---|---|---|
Campsite | 1 | 25x22 | Center of the island |
Beach | 6 | 19x22 | South-western beach on the island; south of Valentina's and west of Francesca's area |
North-west | 11 | 30x29 | North-western part of the island; north of Ursula's and Bearos' areas |
North-east | 15 | 26x30 | North-eastern part of the island; north of Dalia's and Pius' areas |
South-east | 16 | 26x30 | South-eastern part of the island; south of Clyde's and east of Lee's area |
West | 17 | 18x31 | Northwest of Valentina's area |
Aside from the player's initial campsite, each safe area starts out unlit. This means that pets, flower pots, and fruit trees in the area will be inactive until the area is lit and color has returned. Each area has an ancient lamp, which can be lit by chaining lamps from areas that are already lit. (See the Light section below for additional information.)
Inhabitants[]

The island is inhabited by bears, spirits who have lost their memories and whom the player tries to help. Several bears can do tasks for the player such as crafting and recycling items, and cooking food. Other bears sells various items the player may need. As for Captain Billweather Snout, he collects any and all items the player finds on the island.
The island is also inhabitants by imps, trickster spirits which are difficult to approach.
Light[]
Light is a game mechanic in the game. Areas that are lit up appear colorful; unlit areas appear dull and washed out. Certain resources need to be lit to be interacted with or harvested.
Island resources[]
All around the island different resources spawn every day, and some replenish during the day as well. Players can find items in leaf piles, sand piles, and dirt piles, pick up shells on the shoreline, throw skipping stones at clams, catch fish with their fishing rod or critters with their critter net, dig up dirt mounds with their shovel, mine rocks with their pickaxe, cut shrubberies with their machete, harvest fruit from fruit tress and extract relics with their dowsing rod.
Weather[]
Throughout the day and night, the weather on the island may change. It may be sunny, windy, or rainy. These changes are purely aesthetic and have no effect on the gameplay.
